3 Tips for Families Visiting Key West Museum of Arts and History at the Custom House

Lovely Key West Florida has a lot to offer families.  Besides the lovely beaches and quaint vibe of the town there are many opportunities for learning and education:  The Lighthouse and Keeper’s Quarters, Fort East Martello and the Custom House.  We visited Key West earlier this year and stayed in the famous Mallory Square, walking distance from the Custom House Museum.  My girls loved the giant statue at the front of the museum and frequently asked me to take them on a visit to the museum.  On our final morning in Key West we visited this small museum.

Homeschooling with Abeka Academy

This is our fifth year as a homeschool family and our first year using Abeka Academy as our main curriculum.  In the past years I have used My Father’s World (Kindergarten and 1st grade) and for the last two years I have created my own curriculum by putting together separate learning systems (Mammoth Math and the Growing with Grammar language arts series were staples of our curriculum).  Since my daughters both are enrolled in an umbrella school and attend classes once per week I was looking for something new this year to offer some variety from our learning plans of the past.

Scrub Island Resort, Spa and Marina

Earlier this summer Hubby and I were blessed to take a kid free vacation as a belated 10th anniversary celebration. We flew our daughters up to MD to spend the week with our parents (the grandparents split up the time with the girls) and from Washington DC we began our journey to Scrub Island in the British Virgin Islands.
