Animal Kingdom is one of our favorite parks at Walt Disney World in Florida. We love the variety of activities there including the animal exhibits, excellent musical production shows and the Mount Everest roller coaster. One of our favorite things to do at Disney’s Animal Kingdom park is to catch a meal at the awesome Tusker House buffet located in the Africa neighborhood.
Tusker House is a buffet restaurant built to resemble an authentic African village or marketplace. Hostesses greet you outside the entrance and give you a warm, welcoming tour of the restaurant buffet area as they lead you to your table. The server pops up and answers any questions you may have while taking your drink order and then you’re free to explore the buffet!
The Tusker House serves breakfast, lunch and dinner featuring a variety of foods with a definite Pan-African twist mixed in with traditional favorites. You’ll find a carving station with a variety of sides including not only your standard mashed red potatoes and gravy but pigeon peas and rice. There is a wide variety of entrees and sides to enjoy from Peri-Peri marinated baked salmon, samosas with mango chutney, pearl couscous with sweet basil, fried plantains and more.
Everything is prepared with expert care and truly has an authentic taste. For lunch and dinner kids have their own section of more routine offerings like hush puppies, mac and cheese, green beans, applesauce and corn.
There is also a cold salad bar with yummy offerings like tomato and cucumber with mint yogurt dressing and tabouleh.
There is also a general salad bar but the offered dressings span from the home favorite ranch style to curried coconut vinaigrette.
The dessert bar is expansive as well as the fresh bread station which serves cornbread, naan, and pita bread.
On top of the incredible culinary experience you are enjoying, while you’re seated there are Disney Characters that come to greet you and your kids and take pics!
On our visit we were fortunate to meet with Donald and Daisy, Mickey and Goofy. At certain intervals the characters would lead the kids in a parade through the dining hall with musical instruments and dancing to African celebration music.
The Tusker House is a must see if you’re visiting Animal Kingdom. I advise making dining reservations well in advance of your planned visit; I would say that half of the time we have attempted to eat the restaurant during our visits to the park we were turned away if we didn’t have a reservation or we would have long wait.
Have any of you had the chance to eat at the Tusker House during your Walt Disney World vacation? If you’re considering planning a trip to Disney in the future I would LOVE to help you plan your magical vacation! Please feel free to message me with any questions you may have and I’d be glad to help!
