Hubby and I are real fans of the the annual Food and Wine Festival at EPCOT. Each year we look forward to spending lazy fall evenings strolling around the World Showcase and sampling tastes from around the world. We’ve taken our girls a few times but honestly, there wasn’t much to hold their attention on the culinary journey around the world until this year…..
Remy’s Ratatouille Hide and Squeak debuts this year as an activity for kids (and the young at heart) during the Food and Wine Festival. This scavenger hunt draws kids to search for Remy as he attempts to collect ingredients to make his famous ratatouille dish. For a purchase price of $7.95+ tax the girls obtained these colorful maps with clues to the countries or regions where we could search for Remy.
A sticker sheet accompanied the map with pictures of all the food items that he would be collecting. These items can be purchased in multiple locations in the park, including the Festival Center, Pin Central, and the Port of Entry.
We launched into our adventure with much excitement and energy. I’m not sure who was more excited, the girls or Hubby and I! Remy turned out to be a wily guy and it was super tricky to find him most of the time! Fortunately, it seems all the staff around the park are trained to ‘play along’ and were willing to give us hints whenever we were stumped.
The hunt took us about 45 minutes but it was a beautiful day with a cool breeze blowing and our stroll around the World Showcase was relaxed and enjoyable. My youngest daughter started to melt down by the end, tired of the long sojourn and being confined to her stroller (the park was PACKED on that day and many times, even when we were holding hands, it was difficult for us to move smoothly). But my eldest daughter had a BLAST! Hubby and I had a lot of fun too; the scavenger hunt was challenging and finding Remy each time brought a wave of relief and huge smiles to all of us.
At the end of the scavenger hunt we went to the Port of Entry and claimed our prizes! Apparently sharing and collecting pins is one of the most popular quirky activities at Walt Disney World and we were rewarded with our choice of pin featuring Remy and one of the food items he collected around the park.
I would highly recommend this activity for any family visiting the Food and Wine Festival this fall. It is a perfect activity to keep the kids interested and excited while the parents are sampling items from around the world. On a busy day there can be lengthy lines at popular food booths; the scavenger hunt is a great activity to keep the kids occupied while Mom or Dad is waiting in line!
I hope this will become a standard addition to the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival which runs through November 16th, 2015. Have any of you had a chance to visit the Food and Wine Festival this year or in year past?
