Our Very MerryTime Cruise on the Disney Dream 2015: Travelogue Day 2- Nassau, Bahamas

November was a busy month for our family, bringing a milestone birthday for my father in law and the 10 year anniversary for my hubby and me.  To celebrate we booked a 4 night Disney cruise leaving from Port Canaveral during the first week of December, right after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Our first stop on the Disney Dream cruise was Nassau, Bahamas.  As this was my 7nth cruise I was familiar with what the island had to offer but hadn’t done a real sightseeing tour in many years.  We planned to take a private tour to see many of the highlights of the island.

Our Very MerryTime Cruise on the Disney Dream 2015: Travelogue Day 1

So we’ve been back from our Disney cruise about 72 hours now and we’re still recovering from our vacation, LOL!  We had a phenomenal time and our trip couldn’t have been any more perfect.  I know many of my friends have questions about the Disney cruise experience so I decided to do my best to chronicle, daily, our experience and include some tips along the way….  I hope you enjoy these posts!

Our Family visit to Nachi Cocum Beach Club in Cozumel

Cozumel was one of the stops on our delightful Disney Magic western Caribbean cruise in April of this year. The day we stopped in Cozumel was slightly overcast and windy. There were miserable clouds overhead that couldn’t make up their minds whether or not they wanted to rain or just be content with blocking the sun. From the Disney dock we had a LONG walk to the terminal; there were rickshaw type rides available for a small fee to take cruisers from the ship to the actual terminal. We had to pass through a busy open air mini mall area (a nice place to buy souvenirs) to reach the taxi stands. We made reservations at Nachi Cocom Beach Club in advance and easily found a cab to head there; the ride was about 15 minutes. Upon our arrival they had us pose at the entrance to the club for a cute family photo, providing gigantic Mexican hats for us to pose in. We did not purchase the photo before we departed though it would make a very cute souvenir.

Rock Climbing:  Most Royal Caribbean cruise ships have fully outfitted rock climbing walls on board.  Outfitted for children and adults alike, these areas are perfect for a whole family to adventure together, without even leaving the ship!  Imagine the incredible views of the sea or mountainous islands that you can achieve from the lofty heights of the rock wall….

5 Activities You Probably Never Thought You’d Be Able To Do On A Cruise

Have a picnic on the lawn:  Imagine sitting on a freshly manicured lawn of deep, plush, green grass, staring up at the clear blue sky with a strong ocean breeze blowing over you.  One of the unique features of Celebrity Cruise lines is the Lawn Club, half an acre of real green grass featured on the top decks of the Solstice Class Ships.  Here you can find Alcoves which are cabana that offer some privacy for spending the afternoon reading a book, playing chess or taking a light lunch.  Cruisers can play croquet or practice their golf swing.  Some evenings they may find a live musical concert at the Lawn Club, enjoying music under the setting sun.

Our Family’s Visit to Key West

keywestaerial

Key West was the first stop on our Disney Magic cruise, the next day after embarkation, and we planned to take it easy. We wanted to visit the small aquarium located downtown and considered hopping aboard one of the sight seeing trolley/buses. Upon leaving the ship there are complementary open-air trolley buses to take you from port to the city center, which is a short 7 minute ride. This particular day was beautiful and sunny but was very hot.

Our Family’s Visit to the Royal Palms Beach Club on Grand Cayman

We visited Grand Cayman as one of the port destinations on our Disney Magic cruise in April of this year. In preparation for our stop on the island we researched the different beaches and resorts to decide where to spend the day, using a site called Resort For A Day. We settled on the Royal Palms Beach Club and were not disappointed.  It is located on the famous Seven Mile Beach with it’s powdery sands and azure waters; it was easily one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever visited.

Carnival Sensation for Mommies

Sooooo….. my best friend emailed me one day in March and declared that she needed a weekend away from “life” and asked if I wanted to join her on a weekend cruise. I said yes, quickly, but ultimately forgot about our convo for several weeks until I received an email from her in mid April highlighting an awesome deal from Carnival. For less than $400 bucks we would be able to take to the high seas for 3 nights, leaving on a Thursday and returning early on a Sunday morning. It was the perfect itinerary for our busy husbands and kids to make some schedule adjustments and have extra coverage (help) from family back home. It was a no brainer.

Princess Sightings and Oceaneer Club Review

In general girls enjoyed the kids club immensely on our Disney Magic cruise. The Oceaneer club and Oceaneer Lab are spectacular areas for the children to socialize and have fun. There is a insulated hallway between the two areas so children are able to travel back and forth to activities. The kids club is included and is open all day from 9am-12midnight! One difference I noted, in comparison to other cruise lines, was that the staff served lunch and dinner to children who were in the club during designated meal times; they served these meals inside the kids club, instead of taking the kids to the buffet. On our last cruise on Royal Caribbean’s Enchantment the club closed for 2 hours during mealtimes. Since we homeschool and get more than enough of each other on a daily basis (LOL), on certain days our kids enjoyed staying at the club for lunch or dinner (on the days Hubby and I went to Palo, the adults only restaurant).

Experiencing the Magic On Our First Disney Cruise

Since we took our first family cruise in December 2014 we had a feeling we were on our way to becoming cruise lovers. The 4-night Bahamas trip on the Enchantment of the Seas was a perfect “intro” cruise and it totally whet our appetites for more interesting itineraries and ships. Pretty much as soon as we returned I started researching cruise lines, specifically Disney Cruise Line as we kept hearing rave reviews about it, not only online but from friends. I just happened to be doing a search in February of this year when I noted a markedly reduced rate listed for the last week of April. We discussed it and realized that combined with the currently available Florida Resident Rates this was almost too good to be true. Sure enough, within 36 hours of our booking the cruise the listed online rates sprang back up to normal market rates!
